Timber works at the Museum of Farnham have been storming ahead, with a significant milestone being achieved.

Reconstruction of the heritage hips within the roof has now been completed. The rotting tie beams supporting the roof structure have been carefully repaired or removed, and replaced with new, robust timbers to provide maximum structural support. Steel flitch plates have been installed within the new wood sections, offering additional reinforcement and allowing for improved stability, increased load capacity, and an extended lifespan.

The next stage of roof works will involve rebuilding the lead parapet gutters, ensuring rainfall drains correctly into the hoppers located along the sides of the building.

Following this, the team will progress to fitting battens and completing the re-tiling on the hips. This will help to preserve this historical Grade I listed building.

On behalf of, and with funding from Waverley Borough Council, this restoration project will allow the Museum of Farnham to remain a key heritage site in Surrey and continue to support the local community for generations to come.
