A key milestone has been achieved at Smithers Laboratory in Leatherhead.
Prior to the Christmas break, the team finalised the foundations and hold-down bolt installation, providing the critical groundwork required to support the steel frame structure. This phase was followed by the completion of the reduced level dig, during which ground levels were carefully lowered below the finished floor level. The area was then backfilled with recycled aggregate, ensuring a stable and safe working platform capable of supporting heavy machinery.
Currently, the team is working on installing the steel framework with utmost precision. This marks a significant stage in the construction process as the steel will form the main structure of the new extension and allow the build to start taking shape.
Once the framework is fully erected, the next phase will see brickwork commence, with the construction of a low-level wall around the building. The bases of the steel columns will then be concreted over in preparation for floor installation.
