Our team is the backbone of MCS. Each individual plays a vital role in keeping the business running smoothly and contributing to our continued success.
This month, we are spotlighting Adrian Rumble, Commercial Director at MCS. We interviewed Adrian on his experience both in construction and at MCS so far:
How long have you worked in construction, and what was your first role?
I have worked in construction since 1985, and my first role was as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor for a professional practice in Ludgate Hill, London.
What encouraged you to pursue the construction industry?
I left school after completing my A-Levels and didn’t really know what career I wanted to pursue. After a family member suggested Quantity Surveying, I applied for a few roles, and I was offered a position in London. This role gave me the opportunity to become RICS qualified, whilst being in full time employment, via a part time study route, and the rest is history.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to join the industry?
Anyone wanting to join the industry should know that it offers a diverse range of roles with strong possibilities for career progression. It is a good alternative to degree-based employment, with plenty of training and learning opportunities available throughout your career, making the industry accessible whatever someone’s qualifications may be.
What has been your favourite project at MCS to-date?
There are many to choose from but my favourite project to date has to be the new Performing Arts Centre at Hurstpierpoint College, West Sussex, designed by Burrell Foley Fischer and in collaboration with Wenham O’Brien. This was a fantastic contemporary designed, full ‘London’ theatre provision in the heart of the College, utilising a structural exposed cross laminated timber frame. Working within a live school environment was something that the team handled with the utmost care and consideration, as well as consistent liaison with the client and the design team to ensure their vision came to life.
What might surprise people about MCS?
MCS was established in 1982, and we’ve completed close to 1,000 projects over a diverse multitude of sectors over that time, with a vast range of contract values.
Why do you enjoy working at MCS?
I enjoy working with the MCS team, and watching the continued growth and success of the company over the years has been fantastic. It’s changed considerably since I commenced at MCS and I look forward to seeing what’s next for the business.
