We are delighted to announce the award of a new project at Farnham Museum which is an 18th-century town house completed in 1718 and one of Surrey’s most important landmarks.
Working in close collaboration with Farnham Museum, Waverley Borough Council, Drake & Kannemeyer, Ingram Consultancy and Scaffold Designers Limited, MCS has been selected to carry out the careful conservation and repairs to the Grade I listed ‘Wilmer House’.
In recent years, this loved and important building has fallen into disrepair with decaying brickwork, collapsing second floor windows and eroded mortar joints. It is now critical that its future is secured so that it can continue to serve and be enjoyed by the community for many years to come.
We will begin the process of recording, dismantling and rebuilding the upper parts of the front elevation to include the parapet, decorative cornice, ashlar brickwork and second floor window arches and carrying out the associated works, including: general brickwork repairs and replacement of leadwork hoods / capping's, flashings, rainwater goods, joinery repairs and decorations.
We are all looking forward to starting works on this precious building under the guidance and witnessing of Waverley Borough Council’s Conservation Officer when all works will be undertaken whilst the building remains open to its visitors.
Works are due to commence in November 2024.
