Windsor Girls School
The new sixth form building at Windsor Girls’ School, which is a secondary school and sixth form in Windsor, Berkshire was completed in good time for the beginning of the Autumn term 2023.

Working in collaboration with Clarkson Alliance, Edgingtons, MEB Design, Scott White and Hookins and JSP Building Services, MCS was appointed to design & build a 2-storey 6th form teaching block.

The new sixth form building of 675m2 today features six classrooms, two offices, a meeting room, a breakout space/refreshment area and sanitary facilities.

The building contained many sustainable and Passive measures, including: fabric selection; building orientation with the majority of rooms facing east or west, so as to provide solar shading, reduce glare and overheating throughout the day; cross ventilation designed for; the fenestration is well glazed with blinds and also recessed into the external walls with deep mullion profiles.

The school has several majestic trees on the site, with one large oak tree in very close proximity to the build site. Edgingtons developed the landscaping design to retain this tree and take cooling and design inspiration from it, resulting in the attractive articulation of the brickwork detailing at ground and first floor level to reference the different textures of the tree trunk and canopy.
