MCS was appointed to deliver the construction of a new BREEAM Excellent three-storey boarding house, providing accommodation for 62 pupils (84 bed spaces) within a modern and carefully considered residential environment. The scheme was designed to support a range of age groups, with a mix of room layouts tailored to suit both younger and older students.

Working closely with the client and design team, MCS ensured the development met the requirements of a contemporary boarding facility while maintaining a high standard of comfort and functionality. The building incorporates a variety of accommodation types, including three- and four-bed dormitories with shared washroom facilities for younger pupils, alongside twin rooms and single en-suite bedrooms for older students.

The completed boarding house offers a true “home-from-home” environment, with a comprehensive range of communal and support facilities. These include TV and games rooms, kitchen and dining areas, on-site laundry, and well-appointed shower and washroom facilities, all designed to enhance the day-to-day living experience of the pupils.

At ground floor level, a series of flexible spaces has been created for use by all sixth form students, including function rooms, quiet study areas, tutorial spaces and social zones. These areas are designed to encourage interaction between boarding and non-boarding pupils, fostering a strong sense of community. The scheme also includes external terraces, balconies and a landscaped courtyard, providing valuable outdoor space for relaxation and socialising.

In addition to pupil accommodation, the development includes dedicated staff housing to support the operational needs of the boarding house. This comprises two four-bedroom houses for House Mistresses, two two-bedroom flats for assistant staff, and a self-contained flat for the Matron, each benefiting from its own private garden or terrace.
