The transformation of Perseid Lower School is now in full swing, marking an exciting phase in the development of the Morden-based special educational needs facility. The London Borough of Merton has appointed MCS to lead the extensive refurbishment, remodelling, and expansion of the school, which will significantly enhance its teaching capacity.
On-site, our teams have made solid progress, with the site fully set up and the careful internal strip-out of the Brightwell Respite Care Centre well underway in preparation for its remodelling and refurbishment. Externally, the site has been cleared, and the foundations for the first extension at the rear of the school have been poured, with brickwork up to the damp-proof course now completed.
The project will see the construction of two single-storey extensions to the Brightwell Respite Care Centre, which will house four new Early Years classrooms, a music room, a shared studio hall, a designated out-of-hours space, and additional amenities. This expansion will allow the Early Years provision to be relocated, increasing capacity within the Primary School building.
External improvements will include new car and cycle parking, footpaths, outdoor areas, upgraded lighting, and the removal of an existing modular music classroom.
The redevelopment is scheduled for completion in August 2025.
