Construction is now underway at Smithers Laboratory in Leatherhead, Surrey. The project involves delivering a new laboratory extension adjacent to the existing facility - expanding the laboratory’s overall capacity and supporting its continued growth.
The MCS team has completed site setup and begun initial groundworks, starting with essential drainage works. As part of the early phase, the external roof access staircase has been carefully relocated to the opposite side of the building to maintain full access throughout construction. A new concrete foundation has also been installed to support the repositioned staircase, ensuring both safety and regulatory compliance. Excavation works are now progressing in preparation for the installation of ground beams, which will form the base of the new extension.
Looking ahead, the project will gather further momentum in the new year as the steel framework is erected, signalling the start of the next major phase.
We are pleased to be delivering this project on behalf of Smithers Laboratory and look forward to watching the new extension take shape in the months ahead.
