Mount Alvernia Hospital

MCS were appointed to carry out major refurbishments works for a surgical ward at Mount Alvernia Hospital in Guildford. 

MCS won this tender against stiff competition from much larger national contractors to modernise and refurbish the whole surgical ward at the hospital, which included relocating the main surgical theatres and then completely stripping out and refurbishing a whole floor level at the multi-storey hospital. 

The works comprised of alterations and the refurbishment of the existing Surgical Wing to form 45 new single bedrooms with en-suite facilities with new mechanical and electrical installations throughout, new external service risers and external works and drainage as well as new main surgical theatres, ward facilities and upgrading all the patient care rooms and facilities.  

Major structural reordering included engineered propping of the existing structure in connection with the alterations. 

All the works had to be carefully planned to allow the hospital to continue with their ongoing activities and medical services, and site logistics played a major part as our works were on one of the mid-level floors of the multi-storey building. 
The programme was approximately 50 weeks and had a project value of £2.5million. 

MCS were recommended for this project following the successful delivery of projects for the order of Franciscan Missionaries of The Divine Motherhood, who had a large base at Ladywell Convent in Godalming. 

The works were complete on programme and within budget for a very pleased client.
