Glenthorne High School Progress

Great progress is being made at Glenthorne High School, which is a secondary school and sixth form in Sutton, Surrey.

Working in collaboration with Isosceles, Plan A UK Ltd and Scott White and Hookins, MCS is constructing a new single-storey bulge class and 6th Form Centre incorporating additional teaching and study space, whilst also providing much-needed welfare facilities and a café to supplement the school’s main dining room.

The new 340m2 6th Form Centre is designed to maximise the use of natural, low-carbon materials whilst also having a fabric that reduces energy use and increases comfort with moderated internal temperatures and good air-quality.

Following the completion of the piling, reinforced ground beams were installed to allow for the substructure brickwork, structural steel erection, beam and block floor installation and engineered timber roof construction and Bauder green roofing system.

Last week the hemp block laying commenced at great rate. This will be followed by the internal and external rendering with a lime-based mix, then rockwool insulation fitted, underfloor heating and first fix commences.

We are delighted to see that now, more than ever, our clients are seeking to create sustainable buildings that minimise energy and water consumption to combat climate change.
