Contract Award - Guildford Lido

We are delighted to officially announce the award of a new project to deliver critical construction and refurbishment works at Guildford Lido, on behalf of Guildford Borough Council.

Guildford Lido was built in 1933 and is of great historic and sentimental value. It is owned by Guildford Borough Council and operated by Freedom Leisure. In addition to a 50-metre lido there are outdoor changing facilities and a gym.

Working in collaboration with Lytle Associates Architects, Bernard Sims Associates, Press & Starkey, MELLISS LLP and FHP Engineering Services Solutions, MCS has been appointed to carry out the extensive refurbishment and construction works including: careful removal of the existing outdoor changing facilities, breaking out existing concrete slab and subbase, extensive and critical alterations to the existing below ground drainage system.

Once complete a new subbase and concrete slab will be laid and the construction of the new outdoor changing facilities including a glulam frame and roof will begin, extending the existing retaining wall at boundary of site. Additional works include the installation of new changing cubicles, WCs and showers.

Guildford Lido operates all year round for lane swimming. However, the pool will be closed for the duration of these critical works.

These works are due to be completed in 2023.
