Concrete Pour at Hurstpierpoint College

Works are starting to come out of the ground at Hurstpierpoint College with 90% of the ground beams now excavated and poured, walls formed towards the North end and drainage works almost complete.

This week the pouring of concrete to the ground floor and pool floor commenced; this will be followed by the columns and 1st floor slab at the North end, next week.

The 120m3 pour is a mixture of standard concrete and Caltite waterproof concrete around a 250mm reinforced steel cage. The concrete mix was created by working in close collaboration with Caltite and Cementaid, who produced a two-point barrier system as required for this specific application.

During the next few weeks the teams will be focussing on continuing groundworks, steel reinforcement cage works and concrete pours, before a temporary shutdown of the site during May, to ensure zero disruption for pupils during their six-week exam period.

Working in collaboration with Miller Bourne, Wenham O’Brien, HOP, RED Engineering and FT Leisure, MCS has been appointed to design and construct a Swimming Pool building that provides a 25-metre 6 lane swimming pool, conforming to ASA competition standards.

The building, with many sustainability features, will also provide: changing rooms with toilets and showers; disabled changing rooms, store room and reception area.

These works are due to complete during Spring 2025.
