Bricklaying at Salesian School

Today Alice and Daniel, the head girl and head boy girl from Salesian School, located on Guildford Road in Chertsey, visited their new sports hall currently under construction.

The year 11 pupils received a first-hand construction experience, which comprised of a comprehensive health and safety site induction, a theoretical description of the different elements of works that need to come together to create a building and, in addition, the pupils had the opportunity to experience the skill of bricklaying.

Site Manager Jason Nicholson provided an overview of the actual development taking place, introducing the different job roles and duties and also pieces of machinery and their functions. Concluding the experience Jason emphasised the importance of health and safety, explaining the many potential dangers and common hazards on a construction site.

The new sports hall, situated between the current gym and artificial pitch, will create a sports hub for the campus. Facilities will include a first-floor hospitality space with viewing terrace, reception, office, fitness suite, changing rooms, storage areas and a circulation space which also provides a link to another school building.

MCS is delighted to be working in collaboration with Lytle Associates Architects, vkhp-consulting, Framptons Project Solutions Limited and Michael Edwards Consultants Ltd.
