Health & Safety
Whilst we are proud of our excellent record on health and safety, a MCS our ethos is that no matter how good we are there is always an opportunity to improve our performance. Our dedicated team of health and safety managers regularly visit our sites to monitor compliance, but also to advise, encourage and engage with our project management teams to get their feedback on how we could do better. We take all practical precautions to ensure the Health & Safety at work of our employees, whether at the Company premises or when carrying out business elsewhere, and also recognise that a duty of care extends to other persons whilst they are on Company premises.
Since our establishment in 1982 MCS have proudly enjoyed a very loyal and stable workforce. During this time we have permanently employed a wide variety of staff from a diverse mix of today's society and we actively recruit new staff irregardless of their gender, age, culture, sexual orientation, religion, disability or beliefs. We are committed to building an organisation that makes full use of the talents, skills, experience and different cultural perspectives available in today's society and are heavily invested in the training and development of all our staff.
We believe that sustainability is about creating a better quality of life for everyone now and for future generations. At MCS we aim to reduce the amount of waste generated by our business activities and we actively seek to support and develop the communities that we work within as part of our commitment to corporate social responsibility. We use tools such as BREEAM to support our clients in making their project environmentally sustainable.
With every MCS project, we aim to engage with the local community, inviting them to have a look around our sites, helping local schools understand the importance of health & safety on construction sites, providing work experience and apprenticeships for local schools, colleges and universities and using local suppliers and subcontractors to help boost the local economy. We also offer work placements, allowing students to gain valuable insight into how the Construction industry works from the first inception of a project to the completion. If you would like more information regarding work placements please email
Each year at MCS we aim to support a local community and charities where our projects a located. This past year we have supported the Frontline Children charity in a partnership with our projects in Croydon, donating a generous amount to help build a new school for children affected by the conflict in Somalia. We also sponsor a local women's cricket team in Godalming since their inception in 2013 and last summer enjoyed taking part in a sponsors softball tournament raising money for Mind UK and Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. We also donated a generous amount to Crisis UK as an alternative to sending out Christmas cards in an effort to reduce waste. We are always on the lookout for new ways we can get involved with local communities and projects that require sponsoring, time or resources and support. Quality control is achieved by strategic management involvement and close liaison with designers and trade sub-contractors. Where possible we select specialist sub-contractors who are known to use and who work to our standards, the selection of these sub-contractors and the use of our own skilled tradesmen minimises the risk of faulty workmanship. We are proud of our reputation for consistently delivering high quality buildings, which is borne out by the large amount of repeat business proved by our 100% referral rate on projects since 2010.
